Residents and visitors of northern Montana are warned of increased Grizzly Bear activity, now through November. As winter denning season is approaching, these large bears are on the move, looking for additional food sources for themselves and nursing cubs.

NW Montana is home to the largest population of Grizzly Bears in the continental United States. Their numbers are estimated at over 1000—which is great! Unless one or two of those bears has targeted your property as a food source, that is!

To prevent unwanted bear activity, make sure electric fencing is utilized (especially around chicken coops and fruit trees). Should you be met with nosey (and very hungry) bears, please call Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks at 406-752-5501, or follow this link for a directory of warden contacts.
