Organizing Your Space

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

One of the hottest trends of 2015 continues into the new year — the de-cluttering and organization of the home. It’s not hard to see how this trend caught on, either. Our culture collects clutter!

And Christmas, as joyous a season as it is, usually comes in with a whole new array of clutter…err…hostess gifts 🙂 So, how about some ideas on how to start 2016 off right? Let’s do it. Here are some easy steps to take to declutter and better organize your home:

Get Rid of Stuff You Don’t Need Like…excess decorative pillows. You know you have them. You changed decor, but you couldn’t get rid of the beautiful beach-themed pillows! Well, it’s a new year—so do it! Bag them up and donate! Or, if you think they might just come back into vogue next year, store in a plastic airtight container.

Hangers. Let’s be honest. We all collect a million different types of hangers—and we all hate at least ten of the ones hanging in our own closet. Be kind to yourself and your laundry. Throw the baddies out.

Mom’s Old Mugs. The ones that she handed down to you when you moved into your first apartment. Yes, they are a little sentimental—but in reality they are only taking up shelf space. Try investing in four – six matching and stacking coffee cups. Then pass the mugs on to the next kin in line.

Magazines. Even in the age of technology, magazines creep into the house. Some of them are collectable…or were. Still subscribing to Veranda and Architectural Digest? They look great on a coffee table but the reality is that Pinterest has pretty much rendered these beauties useless.

Do-dads & Thingamadoodles. These are most likely the hostess gifts you’ve been collecting in the back room for years. Bottle openers, napkin rings, cheese plates, mismatched coasters. These are the things that need to be purged from a home—or—as mother’s everywhere have done: put them in a box and send them to their kids first apartment.

We look forward to serving you this year at Windmill Storage and Business Park! Stop in for a coffee chat anytime.
